A public reserve near Allora, known as Allora Mountain, has an amazing array of scar trees from First Nations people’s use in times past. We are planning a celebratory event there on Saturday September 28 to which all are invited.
The afternoon will involve walking up and seeing the scar trees, some explanation of their use and significance to First Nations people, some music and dance commemorating the people who used them and then an evening meal of Australian flavours.
We’d love to see you there. This quite special place is an opportunity to involve a wide range of people, so please invite people who might not normally come to such an occasion.
The site is the “Allora Mountain” public reserve which is at the end of Burge Rd, about 1 km north of Allora. Turn east off the highway from Toowoomba. The road takes you to a picnic area less than 1 km up the hill past the transfer station (and to a large Council water tank). This is where we will park and where we will have the music and the dinner later in the afternoon. We will walk up a good walking track to the top of the hill – about a 20 minute walk – to the scar trees. There is a public toilet beside the highway in Allora, next to the Anglican church. The program will be:
This is a free event sponsored by Cicada Woman Tours
Please bring a chair to sit on at the picnic area, and water bottle for the climb.
