Nyalar Mirungan-ah Nature Refuge is in the western foothills of the Dividing Range near Cunningham’s Gap, Qld. The land is mainly open forest with some cleared land, with a normally-flowing mountain creek running through it, and with pockets of other ecosystems in the steep hillsides and mountain gullies.
We have identified over 350 species of Australian plants, a large number of which were used by the First Australians for food, medicine, pleasure, art, tools and shelter.
We are a mixed Aboriginal and European Australian family, and the land is dedicated mainly to the preservation and study of nature and Australian Aboriginal values. The name “Nyalar Mirungan-ah” means “Old Woman’s Tears” in the Githabul language.
