That’s a wrap

Thank you for a wonderful year together. TFNA has settled into a good routine of listening, learning and connecting as adopted as our purpose. I look forward with hope to 2025, despite the challenges we are sure to face.

I have put together a list of what we have experienced this year. It has been great!

Summary of 2024

We had input from:

  • Fr Peter Dorfield who shared about his 50 years’ experience working with First Nations people
  • Fiona McGill from the Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group Inc who spoke about that group’s effective lobbying and activism
  • Cheryl Moggs who designed our logo and talked with us about the layers of symbolism in her design. She also spoke about the handing over to her the deeds to Toobeah after 18 years of work and negotiation
  • Susy and Adam Wenitong from Adapt Mentorship who inspired us with the work they do for local youth
  • Lindy Abawi who ran sessions on the Ladder of Inference and 8 ways pedagogy
  • Wayne Fossey who shared many stories 

Some events and activities:

  • Sunrise reflection for January 26
  • Visited Gummingurru
  • Participated in NAIDOC events
  • Participated in planning for updates to Binangar at Cobb & Co
  • Joined Amnesty International for viewing of “The Last Daughter”
  • Conducted a craft stall which raised funds for Adapt Mentorship
  • Attended cultural burning events at North Branch and Amaroo Environmental Centre
  • Attended Battle of Meewah commemoration
  • Attended Allora Scar tree event
  • Conducted a letter writing session to mark the anniversary of October 14
  • Attended Black Coffee events

Developed resources:

  • Resource list
  • Facebook group, Website, newsletter, email list as communication platforms
  • Banner
  • Commenced 2 book clubs and a movie club
  • Conducted a community mapping process to gather resources and contacts
  • Conducted a survey to assess progress

Plans for 2025

  • Ration Shed visit
  • Native Title presentation
  • Yes Badge craft workshop
  • Barbecue at Gummingurru for Indigenous boarding students at Glennie
  • Follow up with Wayne Fossey for visit to Bunyas
